Motion Graphics for Molly Thompson’s Melbourne Tram Roulette

I recently worked with YouTuber Molly Thompson on her new ā€œMelbourne Tram Rouletteā€ video, and it was such a fun project to bring to life. The idea of the video is simple: Molly lets the tram network decide where she goes for the day. My job was to turn that into clean, engaging motion graphics that help viewers follow the journey.

I started by rebuilding the entire Melbourne tram map in Adobe Illustrator, keeping everything vector-based so I could zoom in without losing quality. After that, I used Photoshop to clean up a few extra elements and prep the assets for animation.

Once everything was ready, I pulled it all into After Effects. That’s where the map comes to life — the camera zooms into the exact tram line Molly ends up on, highlights the route, and shows how the journey unfolds across the city. It adds a layer of clarity and excitement to the video that matches Molly’s style perfectly.

This project was a great mix of technical work and creative storytelling. And honestly, it was just cool to animate a system as iconic as Melbourne’s trams. If you’re a creator looking for custom motion graphics, animated maps, or polished visual assets for your videos, feel free to get in touch. I’d love to help elevate your next project.
